Head injury is the most common cause of sudden damage to the brain in adults – such damage is often called Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). Other types of ABI are strokes, infections and starvation of oxygen to the brain from various causes. The term acquired distinguishes it from congenital or early childhood conditions such as cerebral palsy and injury separates these people from those with progressive diseases of the brain such as Alzheimer’s disease. |
