Acquired Brain Injury Training
Edinburgh Headway Group is committed to raising and promoting awareness of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) across Edinburgh and the Lothians; helping people to understand the effects of ABI and explore coping strategies.
There were approximately 977 ABI admissions per day to UK hospitals in 2019-20 – that is approximately one every 90 seconds*. However, this does not accurately reflect the number of people living with the effects of Acquired Brain Injury.
Edinburgh Headway Group provides Acquired Brain Injury Awareness Training which is relevant for volunteers, carers, support Workers, professionals dealing with an individual with ABI (ie lecturers, tutors) and family members.
The training session lasts approx. 3 hours and covers the following:
-
Basic Brain anatomy and physiology
-
Consequences of Brain Injury
-
Coping strategies
-
Empathy exercises (an interactive opportunity to experience
some of the effects of ABI)
Questions are invited throughout the training and we will try to answer specific queries within the training; we will also direct to the appropriate fact sheets and sources of support if necessary.
